Tambourine Medley

The category of storytelling called paizi qu, may be translated as "melodic suites," and the twenty four identified varieties all share similar structural traits: there is an opening and closing tune, in between which come a series of melodies to which lyrics are added according to the melodic line. The two most well-known varieties of this genre are danxian (tamborine drum songs or suites), primarily performed in the north, and Sichuan qingyin, ballad singing from Sichuan. This genre is particularly good as telling narratives that emphasize human emotions.32
