Story Summary
An extremely funny/ironic piece about an engineer who has never been married or fallen in love, even, because he was labelled a “counter-revolutionary” during China’s turbulent Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). Very embarrassed to be at the Marriage Bureau, he nonetheless enters. He speaks Modern Standard Chinese with a very heavy Cantonese accent, which delights his audience.
